Jikiden Reiki
What is Jikiden Reiki?
Jikiden is a Japanese word meaning directly taught, or
as my teacher taught me.
Within Reiki there is an acceptance of a universal or cosmic energy that runs through us and everything around us. We all share a connection to that energy, and to one another. Reiki works to keep our connection to that energy strong, creating harmony and balance in our bodies and our lives. We are healthy and happy. When the stresses of our busy life overwhelm us a state of disconnection occurs and we slip into a state of imbalance, creating dis-ease in our bodies. We become less happy. With Reiki we return to a better-connected state of being
Energy healing has been with us for centuries and can be found in many cultures. So, Reiki is not a “new age practice”, rather it is based in the rich cultural heritage of Japan and the practices of Shinto and Buddhism. The Reiki energy that we use today was received by Mikao Usui in Japan in 1922 as part of an enlightenment experience that was the culmination of determination and hard aesthetic practices. It was after his enlightenment experience that Usui Sensei found he had the ability to heal. He then made the choice to share this healing ability with others, for the benefit of mankind. He developed a system of practice and teaching for others to follow and one hundred years later Reiki is practiced throughout the world. The history of this development is a powerful story of people and their dedication to helping others.
It is natural that in different cultures Reiki should have spread in different ways. In some instances, the changes were profound moving away from the Reiki developed and taught by Usui Sensei and it seemed that traditional Japanese Reiki had not survived. Fortunately, that was not the case and much of the original Reiki teachings were found with Chiyoko Yamaguchi in Japan, so that today you can learn Reiki in a very similar way to how students learnt in Japan in the 1930’s.
Jikiden is a Japanese word that means ‘directly taught’ or ‘as my teacher taught me’. The title, Jikiden Reiki, tells us that this practice remains true to its origins. Jikiden Reiki is based in compassion. It is valued for its tradition and authenticity and retains the grounding, simplicity and depth of the original teachings.
The Jikiden Reiki Institute in Kyoto manages and supports the teaching and practice of traditional Japanese Reiki around the world.
Jikiden Reiki is simple and can be used by everyone as part of everyday life. It is natural to us and helps people to play a greater part in their own healing and wellbeing. You can receive treatments from a practitioner, and you can learn to become a practitioner giving treatments to yourself and others.
